Jeep Tour Favela

Santa Marta is a shanty-town located in Dona Marta Hill, officially part of Botafogo, in Rio de Janeiro. The residents refer to the shanty-town as Santa Marta because of the image of the homonymous saint kept till today in a chapel at the top of the hill. The image would have been placed there by an old resident in the beginning of the twentieth century.

The community is famous for being the stage of a Michael Jackson`s video clip and because of that, it was built a statue of the pop star on the flagstone that was used for the clip.

In this tour we visit the shanty-town, where we can watch the routine of this community. We walk through the small streets, watch the local commerce. There is also a free market with food and hand made goods

Next, we go to the Tijuca Atlantic Forest, the largest urban forest in the world. This tour includes a small walk in a forest trail up to the Cascatinha Fall. There is also an option of the tour without the trecking in the forest trail.

OBS: To visit the day nurseries and schools, it is necessary some donation (goods, or money) given directly to the members of the community.
